Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                                                                    Tuesday, 06 July 2021

Transition

Due to our COVID procedures, the children will not be able to have a transition day with their new teacher this year, but we will inform them on Wednesday of who their new teacher will be from September.

End of Year Reports

The children will bring home their annual school reports this week. If there is anything in the report that you wish to discuss with your child’s class teacher, please call Mrs Iqbal to make an appointment and the teacher will call you. If the children are not in school this week, the reports will be sent home next week.

Presents for staff

REMINDER: A number of children have asked whether they are allowed to bring presents for staff at the end of the school year. Our staff work incredibly hard and it is nice for them to receive thanks, particularly after the very difficult year we have all had.

I am going to allow items to be handed to staff, as they can then be quarantined in school to ensure that they are COVID-safe, but please do not bring any food that is home-made eg cupcakes. If these are brought in, they will be sent home again with your child. Do not send anything to be shared with other children.

The best way to thank staff would be for your child to make them a home-made card or to write a letter stating the things that they have enjoyed. Children can ask for a piece of card to take home, if they wish to do this.

Reading Bags

REMINDER – From September, all bags brought into school need to be a school reading bag and not a rucksack or tote bag. We do not have the space to accommodate bags other than school reading bags.

You can purchase a school book bag from Mrs Iqbal for £7.50; these are heavy duty and often last many years.

Arrangements for September

School reopens after the summer on Thursday 2nd September for Year 1 to Year 6 children.

Parents of our new Reception children have been given details of their starting times.

From September, our school day will start at 8.50am. Children must be in school by 8.50am or they will be late and will be missing their lessons.

School Finish Times from September

  • Reception children to be collected at 3.15pm
  • Year 1 and Year 2 children to be collected at 3.20pm
  • Year 3 children to be collected at 3.25pm
  • Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children to be collected at 3.30pm

We aim to return to a system where all children are collected at 3.30pm as soon as possible and will do as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. However, these arrangements will be in place initially in the new school year.

MESSAGE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE

Your neighbourhood policing team have been out at school drop off/ pick up times recently.
Whilst interacting with the children and staff members, we have witnessed a number of concerning issues.
Anybody dropping/collecting children needs to be mindful about road safety, child safety and other road users.
Ideally we would ask parents to walk their children to school or at least park away from the school and walk the children to the gate. We understand that people need to get to work, but by parking on the zig zags and double yellow lines you are putting the children in danger.

It’s a bad day for us if we have to issue tickets but due to careless driving and inconsiderate parking, this is something we had to do and will continue to do.

Please help us, to help your children.

Thank you

Your Brierfield Neighbourhood team

Matt, Donna and Katie

Before-school childcare facility for September 2021

As you know we have been unable to offer a breakfast club throughout this school year. From September we are offering a small number of places where children can be dropped off at school from 8:15 in the morning.

No food or drink will be available for the children. It is a childcare facility to support those parents who need to drop their children off earlier, to get to work. The children will all be in their year groups and will not mix with children from a different year group. The children will be supervised by school staff and will have a range of activities to do in their classroom.

The children will need to arrive at school between 8.15 and 8.25 each morning to attend the facility. There is no admission after 8.25am.

We ask for a £2.50 donation each week per child (capped at £5 per family), to help with the staffing and resource costs associated with running this facility.

If you would like to apply for your child to have a place, please complete the attached form and return it to school by Friday 9th of July. Places are limited and we cannot guarantee that all applications will be successful.

You will receive confirmation next week as to whether your child has received a place.

The aim is for us to move back to a whole school breakfast club at some point, but we can only do this once we fail it is safe to do so, taking into account COVID.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Sarah Bell
