31.1.20 Spelling Bee, Fun Run, Parent Governor Election, Young Voices, Half Term, Attendance, Lates

Friday 31st January 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Spelling Bee

Well done to the children who achieved the highest score in their year group in the Spelling Bee last week. They will go on to compete against children from Briercliffe School and Walverden School. The date for this will be announced after half term.

Our semi-finalists are: Y6 Saleyha, Y5 Abdullah, Y4 Aadam, Y3 Eesa, Y2 Saadiyah and Y1 Zainab.

Times table Competition

The first round of the SWAT times table competition takes place in school when we return from half term. Practice papers are available and children need to ask their teachers for these.

Number Day

We are celebrating ‘Number Day’ next Friday (7th February). Mrs Lambert has made a letter available today with further information on this exciting day. Please make sure that you read this for more information.

Young Voices

22 children from Y4, 5 and 6 attended the annual Young Voices concert at Manchester Arena on Wednesday night and helped form part of a large choir, with over 8000 children from the North West area. An amazing time was had by all staff and pupils who attended and the conduct of our pupils was exemplary.

Year 3 Assembly

All parents/guardians of children in Y3 are invited to come and watch their assembly at 9.30am on Tuesday 4th February which starts at 9.30am. The children will be sharing their recent work related to e-safety.  I have had a sneak preview and it looks great!

Fun Run

Forms have been sent home this week for the Fun Run.

Year 3, 4, 5, 6 will do their run on Monday 10th February

Years 1, 2 and Reception will do their run on Tuesday 11th February

Please support your child to get as many sponsors as they can and please ensure that they only ask family and friends, and not strangers.

The forms need to be in school by Friday 7th February, so we can write down the number of laps that they have done.

The children will be able to take part in the run, as long as they have raised some money.

They are able to come in fancy dress but this needs to be suitable for running in, including their footwear!

All money raised needs to be in school by 26th February, in order to be considered for the number of prizes on offer.

Parent Governor Election

The children brought home forms yesterday for the parent governor election. These need to be returned in the envelopes provided, no later than 11am on 14th February.

Attendance

Our whole school attendance remains a concern and the Local Authority are concerned about the fact that we have been below the target of 96% for a number of consecutive weeks. This week’s attendance is 95.7%.

Punctuality

A number of children are still arriving late to school. This week 2 hours and 44 minutes of learning has been lost, due to children arriving late.

Mrs Walton and myself have been meeting with a number of parents/carers this week to discuss any pupils whose levels of attendance or punctuality have been a concern and we will continue to monitor this.

Half Term

School will be closed from Monday 17th February to Friday 21st February. School will re-open on Monday 24th February.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Sarah Bell

Headteacher
