Maths Week England – Week beginning 14th November

As part of this we explored the work of Henry Ernest Dudeney.

Pentominoes are thought to have been invented by Solomon W. Golomb in 1953. Henry Ernest Dudeney, an English inventor, created the first pentomino problem which was publishes in 1907.

Pentomoinoes are shapes that use five square blocks, joined edge to edge, to form various combinations

In our maths lessons, we tried to find all 12 pentominoes. We then tried to complete pentomino puzzles, by fitting all the pentominoes into a grid. It was harder than we thought it would be!
