10/7/19 Fun Run, Graduation, Summer Homework, Reading Challenge, Summer Closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

Fun Run

Well done to all the children who took part in the Fun Run last Friday. The children all did really well and tried hard to do their best. I was very proud of them all.  All the money now needs to be collected and must be in school on Monday 15th July at the latest, in order to be considered for the prizes, which will be awarded before the children leave for the Summer break.

Children’s University

I was very proud of the 76 children who graduated from the Children’s University last week. They have worked hard to collect credits to be eligible for this. Remember that children accrue credits from attending school clubs, but can also gain additional credits from attending out of school activities at registered ‘learning destinations’ A list of these can be found on the Children’s University website. I keep a record of all the credits gained from attending clubs in school but the ones out of school must be collected using a ‘passport’.  These are then collected in once a term, and I pass the number of credits on to the university. If you need a passport, you can order one from Mrs Iqbal for £3.50.

Reports and Results

All pupil reports will be sent home with the children on Tuesday 16th July. Results from statutory tests and assessments that your child has taken , will also be included in the report.

This will be Reception EYFS profile results, Year 1 phonics results, some Year 2 phonics results and Year 6 SATS results.

If you wish to discuss the reports or the results once you have received them, you can make an appointment, via Mrs Iqbal, to meet with your child’s classteacher.

Summer Homework

Just before the Summer break, the children from Reception to Year 5 will all be bringing home details of ‘summer homework’. We find that the children who do some work throughout the break, achieve more success when they return to school in September. Just 5 – 10 minutes of work, three or four times each week throughout the holidays, should be enough to keep the main skills ticking over. The homework will include some online tasks, such as Times Table Rockstars and Bug Club and also keeping a brief diary, to ensure that writing is given a focus. We will be asking parents/carers to sign a diary to show that your child has carried out regular learning tasks. You can add other tasks to this too, such as carrying out research linked to the new topic or by visiting your local library to complete the Summer Reading Challenge. Teachers will be checking when the children return in September and there will be certificates for those children who have completed the challenges!

Summer Break

School will close at 1:15pm on Tuesday 23rd July and will reopen for Y1 – Y6 on

Tuesday 3rd September.

(Our new Reception children will have been given their starting date and time by Miss McKenzie).

Thank you for your support,
