Autumn 1

The Gingerbread Man: We have acted out the story in small groups and in our small world areas. We have used Talk for Write to help us to retell and then innovate the story.

Trip to the Church: In preparation for our trip we learnt about what we could see. We then had a guided tour of the church. Lastly, we wrote a recount of the things we learnt about.

The Day the Crayons Quit: Every day we received a copy of a letter from one of the crayons. These letters were addressed to Duncan (the boy who was using the crayons). Each crayon described how they were feeling. We acted in role as one of the crayons as our peers asked us questions about how we were feeling and what made us feel that way. Finally, we pretended to be one of the crayons as we wrote our own letter to Duncan. We made sure we used exciting words such as: excited, miserable, angry, nervous and embarrassed.

Autumn 2

Funny Bones: First we read the story, then we innovated where the characters visited and the wrote our new story.

Invitations: We have had our nativity performance with Reception. We looked at the features of invitations and then made our own invites for the people we know to come and watch us.

Winter Poems: We thought about our senses and thought of adjectives to describe winter scenes. We wrote our own poem about using each of these e.g., I can hear a crackling fire.

Spring 1

Tiddalick: We have been reading the story, ordering events and innovating what made him laugh.
