Dear Parents/Carers,

School Closes at 3.30pm on Friday 19th December

Children can wear their Christmas themed clothes or non uniform on this day.

We are asking for donations for Pendleside Hospice eg £1 per child.

 Attendance

A Laser Quest attendance treat will take part before the end of term for the children who have achieved 96+% since the start of the school year.

Our overall school attendance this week was 94.22%

Only these three classes met the target of 96% attendance this week.

Y3 Koala Class

99.26%

Y6 Husky Class

98.71%

Y3 Narwhal Class

96.55%

GULP  (Give Up Loving Pop)

Year 3 had their final GULP session.

The staff from BFC were so impressed with how much knowledge the children now have about making the right choices when it comes to choosing what we drink.

They gave them some gifts of a new water bottle and a tooth brushing set each.

Online Safety

I am aware that many children receive new devices at Christmas time. Please be aware of the dangers these can pose to your child, if you do not set up effective monitoring and filtering.

You can use free software by searching for Qustodio free. https://www.qustodio.com/en/free-sign-up/

I have attached some information at the bottom of this newsletter about TikTok, which I have heard children in school talking about.

Children need to be 13 years old to access TikTok due to the content on there.

These two extracts explain about some of the dangers of allowing children to access content that is not intended for them.

Punctuality

Well done Mrs Hardman’s Y6 Hoopoe Class as all the children were in school on time this week.

All of the children who arrive at school on time for all five days in a week, will be entered into a class raffle.  14 more children had their names chosen this week as they had attended on time for 5 days. They were able to choose a prize from Mrs Simmonds.

Christmas Fair

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Christmas Fair yesterday.

It was lovely to see so many people having fun!

All money raised will go towards buying resources for school. Thank you to the staff who gave their time to organise and run the fair.

RAFFLE TICKETS WILL CONTINUE TO BE SOLD. THE RAFFLE WILL BE DRAWN ON WEDNESDAY.

We will notify you of winning tickets and you can bring your winning ticket to the office to collect your prize.

Thank you to Mr Nohail who donated sweets and treats for the fair.

Winners

Safa from Reception won the teddy bear.

The name of the bear was Dora.

Aasim in Y5E won the sweets in a jar. He correctly guessed 103 sweets.

Reception Songs

Well done to our Reception children for their performance on Tuesday.

Their songs and actions were fantastic! We were so proud of them all!

Primary School Admissions

School admissions are now open.

If your child is in their last year of pre-school/nursery you can now apply for their primary school place at: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/search/?search=school+admissions

It's quick and easy to do and you will receive email confirmation of your application.

You must apply even if you already have siblings in our school.

School Links

Year 4

We have been making links with other schools to share the similarities and differences between the schools.

Year 4 went to Holy Trinity Primary School to watch their nativity performance on Monday, which our children said was brilliant.

After the performance, our children had hot chocolate and chatted with the Year 4 class.

Year 3

Year 3 have made links with Northern Primary in Bacup. Our Year 3 children recently wrote them letters and visited the school on Wednesday to see their nativity performance. Again they then played with the Year 3 children and found things that were the same and things that are different to Reedley.

Design and Technology Projects

Chocolate Brownies

Well done to Year 6 who have made chocolate brownies as part of their Design and Technology topic and then sold throughout school yesterday.

The children told me that the best part of this project was product tasting other brownies as part of the research!

Children from Y5 were asked what they thought of the brownies.

One child said that they were delicious. Another child bought four as they were so good.

Year 6 worked out how much they had spent on ingredients and that they made an overall profit of £30.

Crumble

Y5 children have been learning about making crumble deserts. The ingredients were kindly donated by Tesco. The children had to try different fruits and plan their crumble.

They then invited family members to come in to taste, and help to evaluate, their finished products.

Sanderson’s Dance

Dance teachers from Sanderson’s came in to work with the children from Y6 and Y4 as part of their PE curriculum.

They will be working with Y3 and Y5 in January.

BBC 500 Words

Thank you to parents who submitted their child’s writing to the BBC 500 Word competition.

Well done to Muhammad Ali Imran, Y5E, who has successfully got through to the next round.
