Dear Parents/Carers,
Road Safety
It is great to see the children wearing their high visibility badges. Thanks again to the school council
for their promotion of ‘Be Bright - Be Seen’.
Please have safety at the forefront of your minds at all times at school drop off/pick up times.
According to Brake (Road Safety Charity):
• Five people die on UK roads every day.
• Every day, six children are killed or seriously injured on UK roads.
• Last year, 1,671 people died on UK roads.
• Another 28,804 suffered serious, life-changing injuries.
I still see:
- Children getting out of cars in the middle of the road.
- Cars mounting the curb to park when children are on the pavement
- Cars dropping off on the zig zags or on the single yellow lines
- Children not being in an appropriate car seat
Nothing is more important than the safety of our families. Please look out for all of our children.
Absence from school
A number of children are taking children out of school for lengthy periods of time.
185 days of schooling this year have been lost for this purpose.
Just a few reminders about attendance:
• We do not authorise absence from school for families to visit poorly relatives or to attend
family weddings.
• If children are absent from school and there is no evidence of a medical reason, then parents
can be fined £160 per parent per child. If the absence reaches 15 days or more, then there is
no option for an initial fine. The parents could be prosecuted and then receive a larger fine
and a criminal conviction.
• There are 13 weeks of school holidays each year and the expectation is that all holidays and
trips take place during these times.
• The impact of these breaks from education are extremely disruptive to child’s education.
Often there are gaps in learning that never get filled.

Attendance
There is an attendance treat which will take part before the end of term for the children who have
achieved 96+% since the start of the school year.
Our overall school attendance this week was 93.14%
Y5 Ermine 99.65
Y3 Koala 99.59
Y4 Narwhal 98.41
Y3 Eagle 96.93
Y6 Huskey 96.06
Punctuality
Well done to the following classes who each had 2 children late this week.
Reception Ducking Class, Y1 Lion Class, Y3 Koala Class and Y6 Hoopoe Class,
All of the children who arrive at school on time for all five days in a week, will be entered into a
class raffle. 14 more children had their names chosen this week as they had attended on time for 5
days. They were able to choose a prize from Mrs Simmonds.

Athletes
We were very lucky to have two Olympic athletes visit our school on
Wednesday.
Onyeka Okoh and Reynold Bangio spoke to the children in assembly and
worked with all the children in a range of sporting activities.
They were really inspirational and told the children about the need to work
hard and stay healthy.
Onyeka is a hurdler and Reynold is a long-jumper.
Reynold can jump 8.04m. It was amazing to see how far this actually is!

Please bring plenty of change!
Thank you for your very generous donations of sweets and chocolate today! You are all very kind. If
you haven’t brought your donation into school yet, please bring it on Monday.
Tesco Stronger Starts – Carol Singing and Tombola
Some of our children will be visiting Tesco Burnley Extra on Friday 5th December at lunchtime to
do some festive carol singing and help promote our Tesco Stronger Starts project.
We will also be running a tombola at Tesco Burnley Extra on Saturday 6th December to raise money
for new role play and small world resources for our Reception class.
If you are shopping in Tesco on either day, please come and give us a wave and, if you can, support
our stall.
School Nurse
The school nurse regularly comes into school. During these session parents/carers can come in and
speak confidentially to the nurse about issues you may have for your child such as diet, bedwetting,
emotional wellbeing, staying healthy and sleep. She can also offer advice about other medical
conditions and will offer suggestions of where you can get further support, such as the pharmacist
or doctor.
The next session will be on 1 December from 2 – 3pm. There is no need to book, just turn up.
Key Events
• Tuesday 2nd December at 2.30pm & Wednesday 3rd December at 2.30pm - Y1 and Year 2
