Autumn 1:
Magazine Articles:
In English we are looking at how texts that have been structured in different ways for a range of purposes. How to analyse differnet types of writing and it's purpose. Towards the end of the unit, the children will be creating thier own magazines and should be able to:
- Identify and describe features of non-ficiton text types
- Identify and discuss the audience, purpose, language and presentational features of different text types
- To compare language and structure of different text types
- Organise thier writing into paragraphs including key information
- Write and create a page for a magazine including a range of text types and features.
Beowulf:
Long Long ago, Demark was a wild place with gruemsome monsters that roamed the misty moors howling and shrieking into the night. The story beings with a fearless warrior from overseas named Beowulf known for his acts chivalry brave beowulf was the name they called him. Battling with the forces of darkness. However, his story has just started as he lands in Heort and fights Grendal and his sea-hag fiend of a mother. Will he do his name justice and bring peace at Herot?

Autumn 2:
Carries War:
Carrie and her younger brother Nick are evacuated to Wales to spend the war years with the dour Mr Evans and his sister 'Auntie' Lou. Carrie and Nick spend much of thier time at Druid's Bottom - a mysterious house where Hepzibah Green, the housekkeper, tells them strange stories abouts skulls and curses. Carrie and nick settle into their new lives...then Carrie does something she'll live to regret.

Jabberwocky:
This is a poem about a father warning his son not to go looking for the Jabberwocky but decides to go agaisnt what his father said.
Lewis Corell the author of this poem, calls it a nonsesne poem as the vocabulary he uses are a mixtrue of nonsense words and portmanteau which is two words combined to make one word.
Near the end of the term, the children will be altering the poem using Lewis' technique of nonsene and portmanteau words to create their own poem. They should be able to:
- Justify inferences using evidence
- Identify unfamiliar words and annotate around the poem
- Identify different vocabulary from the poem
- Use adjectives to create noun phrases
- Innovate their own story uisng thier own ideas and creating a new character for thier story.
- Write an innovated narrative of the poem including the key skills revised.
