Spring 1

This half term, we will be learning all about dinosaurs by exploring a range of non-fiction texts. We will find out about different types of dinosaurs. We will be learning about the life and work of Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter.

We will also be learning about Chinese New Year and how people celebrate the festival. We will explore traditions, food and decorations.

Literacy

When we arrived to school, we made an exciting discovery. We saw a huge dinosaur footprint. We discussed what we noticed and shared our ideas. We came up with exciting describing words such as enormous, giant and large. We described the T-Rex's teeth using a sentence substitution table to help us say and write our sentences. We also thought of exciting words to describe the Triceratops horns, such as spiky, hard and sharp.

We learned about Mary Anning, who was a palaeontologist from a long time ago. When she was a girl, she looked for shells and bones. When she was an adult she discovered a huge dinosaur skeleton and dinosaur poo.

Look at some of the exciting things we have been doing during continuous provision. In the playdough area, we enjoyed making a diplodocus and then describing it using a sentence substitution table. In the writing area, we drew fossils and used our phonics knowledge to write the word. We also made dinosaurs using paper plates. We also enjoyed role-playing in the small world area.
