🌈 Autumn 1: Marvellous Me!
📄 Knowledge Organiser
Our Knowledge Organiser gives you an overview of the key learning, vocabulary and experiences for this half term. It also includes ideas for activities you can enjoy together at home.
Our first half term is all about settling into Reception, making friends and celebrating what makes us special. Children will explore themselves, their families, their new school and the world around them through stories, play and exciting first-hand experiences.
🌟 Our Experiences
We will explore our school, visit the Role Play Village, investigate our People Who Help Us museum loan box and enjoy an Autumn Seasonal Walk. Children will also share photographs and talk about their families and homes.
🌹 Phonics
We follow Red Rose Phonics. Children will develop their listening and sound awareness before beginning Phase 2, learning their first letter sounds and starting to blend sounds to read words.
📚 Literacy
Our key texts are I Like Myself and Martha Maps It Out. We will enjoy stories, rhymes and songs, talk about characters and events and develop confidence with mark making and early writing.
🔢 Maths
Through practical activities, songs and games, we will explore numbers to 4, counting, comparing quantities, sorting, matching and patterns.
❤️ PSED & Communication
Children will build friendships, learn our Reception routines, talk about their feelings and develop their independence. We will encourage lots of talking, listening, questioning and new vocabulary throughout our learning.
🏃 Physical Development & PE
Our PE focus is Fundamental Movement Skills, including running, jumping, hopping, climbing and balancing. Fine motor activities will also help strengthen children's hands ready for writing.
🌍 Understanding the World
We will explore families, our school and local area, maps, the five senses and signs of autumn. Children will also learn about different families and communities and explore Diwali.
🎨 Expressive Arts & Music
Children will explore colour, texture and different art materials, create self-portraits and enjoy imaginative play. Our Charanga music unit is Me!
