Learning at Home 🏡

Learning at home in Reception does not need to feel like formal homework. Short, regular activities and everyday conversations can make a big difference to your child’s confidence and progress.

Knowledge Organisers 🌟

At the beginning of each half term, your child will bring home a Knowledge Organiser. This gives you an overview of some of the exciting learning taking place in Reception, including key vocabulary and ideas linked to our current theme.

You will also find suggested activities that you can enjoy together at home throughout the half term. These are designed to be fun and practical and are a great way to talk to your child about what they have been learning at school.

Weekly Phonics Homework 🔤

New phonics homework is sent home every Thursday.

The homework will reflect the phonics phase and sounds your child is currently working on, so children may not always receive exactly the same activities.

We recommend spending around 5–10 minutes, three times a week practising these sounds and activities. Little and often is much more valuable than one long session.

Simple Ways to Support Learning 💛

There are lots of ways you can support your child without sitting down to do formal homework. You could count objects when playing or shopping, spot numbers and letters when you are out, practise writing their name, sing songs and rhymes, talk about their day, play games together or enjoy the activities suggested on the Knowledge Organiser.

Most importantly, talk, play and have fun together. These everyday experiences are an important part of learning in Reception. 🌈
