Tiddalik

What Made Tiddalik Laugh (Puffin Folk Tales of the World) by Joanna ...

At the start of this half term children were introduced to the Folk Tale, What madeTiddalik laugh.

We looked at Australia where the tale is set in Geography lessons.

The children were presented with some clues in a 'Wonder box' and had to guess what they thought the story would be about.

They really enjoyed finding out about Tiddalik and performed in role as Tiddalik during our hot seating session.

Children then innovated the story which meant changing the character that made Tiddalik laugh and what activity that character did. They had some fantastic ideas! exmaples of those were:

- A Kukaburra that fell out of a tree.

- An Emu that had hillariously long, skinny neck and legs.

- A Koala who ran into Tiddaliks very full tummy.

You can find the animated version of the story on the link below. Please scroll down and click Tiddalik.

English KS1/KS2: Full versions of our animated series - BBC Teach

The animated version is slighlty different to the story version. We discussed these differences and the children will be able to talk to you about what happens is each version.

On the way home

On the Way Home - Scholastic Shop

On the way home by Jill Murphy was our next English text.

The children loved hearing all of the stories that Claire told to her friends about how she hurt her knee.

We created a story map so that the children were familiar with the story and it's order. They spent time describing Claire and use the conjunction 'and' in their writing.
