English in Year 1

Autumn 1 -

Traditional Tales - The Gingerbread Man 

In English the children are listening to traditional tales and we have been focusing on the story 'The Gingerbread Man'. We have been saying repeated refrains from the story such as 'run, run as fast as you can you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man'. We have been learning about how the key characters such as the fox and the Gingerbread Man are feeling during different parts of the story and have been using words such as 'happy, sad, scared, nervous, frightened, angry, cross'. We have been writing simple captions to describe the key characters in the story and using finger spaces when we are writing. The children have been enacting out the key events from the story in drama.
